The Science Behind The Lightning Process
Some of the core concepts of the LP are described below. These are well-evidenced principles with links to research at the bottom of this page.
Psychoneuroimmunology
This is the connection between our mind (psychology), nervous system (neurology), and immune system (immunology), and how they influence each other. This is also known as the mind-body connection. The Lightning Process® (LP) teaches how to use this dynamic connection to have a positive influence on our own nervous system and create lasting improvements for health and wellbeing.
Physical Emergency Response (PER)
This is commonly referred to as the "fight or flight" response, it is our body's natural reaction to perceived threats. This response is designed for short-term activation to help us quickly react to danger. However, stressors of modern life often cause prolonged activation of the PER, which can disrupt our sleep, digestion, immune function, and overall mood - even sometimes leading to chronic illnesses. Understanding and managing the PER is essential to prevent chronic stress from causing mental or physical health issues. The LP teaches techniques to recognise and deactivate the PER, promoting better health and well-being.
Neuroplasticity
This is the brain's extraordinary ability to adapt based on our experiences, behaviours, thoughts, and emotions. When we repeatedly use certain neural pathways, they become stronger, while less-used pathways get weaker. The LP teaches techniques to disrupt unhelpful, unconscious patterns and reinforce or create more useful pathways instead. This approach enables us to consciously reshape our brain's functioning to support a healthier, more fulfilling life.
Research
If you want to check out the research that has been conducted on the LP, you can find these papers on the LP website here. You can also find research on the topics discussed above - all of which support the principles underpinning the LP - on the LP website here.
